Westchester, Ca. - The ninth-ranked Loyola Marymount women's water polo team broke open a close game with five third period goals and went onto defeat 12th-ranked Cal State Northridge in a non-league game on Saturday.
The Matadors got two first period goals from Jessica Coy and Sydney Sonoda to take a 2-1 first period lead. Cal State Northridge kept the one goal lead with a 6-5 lead at halftime.
But the Matadors faltered in the third period as the Lions outscored CSUN, 5-1, to take a 10-6 lead.
Tara McGinley led the Matador attack with four goals. Coy had two goals.
Jillian Stapf recorded ten goals in goal.
The Matadors are now 5-11.
