#15 UC Santa Barbara Upsets #9 Cal State Northridge, 8-7

Santa Barbara, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara, ranked 15th in the nation, recorded an 8-7 upset victory over ninth-ranked Cal State Northridge in a Big West Conference women's water polo game on Friday afternoon at Gaucho Pool.

This game was close from start-to-finish. Both teams scored two goals in each of the first and second periods to enter halftime at 4-4.

UC Santa Barbara scored two straight goals in the third period to take a 6-4 lead. The Matadors then scored two goals to again tie the game at 6-6. However, the Gauchos scored a goal near the end of the third period to take a 7-6 lead.

CSUN again tied the game early in the fourth period, but UCSB's Jessica Porter scored the winning goal with 4:43 to play.

CSUN's overall record fell to 22-8 and 3-2 in league competition. UCSB increased its season record to 11-14 overall and 2-3 in conference action.

CSUN will now have eight days to prepare for the Big West Conference Tournament (April 25-27) at Long Beach State. The Matadors have earned a first round bye into the semifinals on Saturday (April 26) at 3:15 pm. CSUN, seeded second, will face either #3 seed Hawai'i or #6 UC Davis.
