Northridge, Calif. –
Cal State Northridge, ranked eighth in the nation, handed eleventh-ranked Long Beach State an 11-7 defeat in a Big West Conference women's water polo game on Saturday afternoon at Matador Pool.

Next … CSUN's big match against fifth-ranked UC Irvine on Sunday at noon at Matador Pool.

Earlier this year, defense prevailed as CSUN scored a 4-3 overtime decision over the 49ers. In Saturday's rematch against the 49ers, offense took center stage. Jenny Jamison and Katie Kammer each scored three goals to pace the Matador attack.

Chelsea Park's, LBS's leading scorer (41 goals entering Saturday's game), put the visitors in front, 1-0, at the 6:03 mark of the first period. Cal State Northridge went to work scoring six straight goals over the remainder of the first and second periods to take a 6-1 half time lead. Kammer scored two of her three goals during CSUN's scoring run.

CSUN's victory raised its season record to 22-6 overall and 3-0 in the Big West Conference. The CSUN victory sets up the biggest game of the year when the Matadors host fifth-ranked UC Irvine on Sunday at Noon. The Anteaters are tied with CSUN in the league standings with a 3-0 mark following UCI's 6-3 victory at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.

UC Irvine has won eight straight games over the Matadors including a 8-7 overtime decision earlier this year. CSUN has never beaten UCI in three games at Matador Pool.

UCI leads the series, 20-3.
