#7 Cal State Northridge Captures Wins Over CMS & Azusa Pacific

Northridge, Ca. – Cal State Northridge captured its seventh straight victory on a chilly Wednesday night with a highly convincing 18-6 victory over Claremont Mudd Scripps in a non-league women's water polo game at Matador Pool.

Marisa Young led the Matador attack with five goals. Ten Matador players scored at least one goal. That included three goals from Molly Henehan and two goals from Kelcie Ferreira.

CMS led briefly with the game's first goal at 6:31 of the first period. After that, CSUN scored three straight goals. CSUN ended the first half with a 9-3 lead.

The lead expanded to 14-5 after three periods.

In the first game with much warmer weather, Lindsy Duncan scored a game-high four goals to lead seventh-ranked Cal State Northridge to a 12-7 victory over Azusa Pacific in the 2014 season home opener for the Matadors.

Seven different CSUN players scored at least one goal. Melissa Doll and Jenny Jamison each scored two goals.

The Cougars scored the game's first goal but the Matadors scored five straight goals over the next two periods to enjoy a lead they never surrendered.

CSUN led at halftime, 7-4.

The Matadors extended the lead to 9-4 with 4:48 remaining in the third period, but the Cougars rallied with three straight times to pull within two goals of CSUN at 9-7.

CSUN's offense went into high gear with three straight goals by Jamison, Kelcie Ferreira and Duncan to close out the 12-7 victory.

Kiernan Davis collected eight saves.
