Cal State Northridge Reaches Its Highest National Ranking Ever - Seventh

Colorado Springs, Co. – In 2010, Cal State Northridge featured a team that many consider the best squad in school history.
The Matadors chalked up a 28-8 record, and reached its highest national ranking ever – ninth.
Fast forward to 2014 … CSUN started the year ranked 14th in the pre-season. In the following weeks, CSUN dropped to 16th, jumped to tenth, and is now enjoying its highest ranking in school history … SEVENTH.
With a record of 9-5 and victories this year over several nationally-ranked teams including #9 Loyola Marymount, #11 UC San Diego, #12 Long Beach State, #14 Indiana, and #18 Santa Clara, the national ranking of SEVENTH is well deserved.
Only such traditional powers in women's water polo are ahead of Cal State Northridge. USC (the defending NCAA champion) is ranked #1 followed by UCLA (#2), Stanford (#3), California (#4), Arizona State (#5) and UC Irvine (#6).
Cal State Northridge returns to the pool this weekend with competition at the Cal Lutheran Invitational. Saturday (March 1) at 9:15 am, the Matadors will face Whittier, followed by a 2:15 pm contest against Cal State East Bay. On Sunday (March 2), CSUN plays Occidental at 10:30 am. Then at 3:30 pm, Cal State Northridge faces Chapman College.
Balanced scoring continues to be a trademark in the team's success this year. Five players have scored double-digit goals led by Marisa Young (26 goals), followed by Lindsy Duncan (20 goals), Kelcie Ferreira and Jenny Jamison with 17 goals each, and Celena Photopulos (12 goals).
Kiernan Davis has generated 86 saves in 14 games.

The March 8 game at Cal State Bakersfield has been cancelled … Lindsy Nelson, Jenny Jamison and Marisa Young continue to move up the CSUN career Top-10 scoring list … Nelson now has 182 career goals, third-best in school history … Allison Brookes (2005-08) is the school record holder with 222 goals followed by Whitney Delgado (2009-11) in second place with 191 goals … With 141 goals, Young has 141 career goals, seventh-best in school history … Jamison has 138 career goals, eighth-best in school history.
