La Jolla, Calif. – The Cal State Northridge women's water polo travels south this weekend (2/8 & 2/9) to compete in the prestigious UC San Diego Invitational at the Triton Pool and at the Canyonview Pool.
The 16-team tournament features 13 of the top teams in the nation. The field includes top-ranked and defending NCAA champion USC, #5 UC Irvine, #6 UC San Diego, #8 San Diego State, #10 Arizona State, #11 Loyola Marymount, #12 Long Beach State, #13 Indiana, #15 UC Davis, #16 Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara, #19 Hartwick, and #20 Santa Clara.
The Matadors are in a four-team bracket with #1 USC, #13 Indiana and Sonoma State. CSUN begins play on Saturday morning (9:20 am) against the Indiana Hoosiers. The winner of the game will face either USC or Sonoma State at 2:40 pm. The loser of the CSUN/Indiana game will play at 1:20 pm against the loser of the USC/Sonoma State contest. Both CSUN games will be played at the Canyonview Pool.
Sunday's pairings will be determined by the results of the two games on Friday.
Cal State Northridge holds a 4-2 record after two weeks of competition. Balanced scoring has been the trademark of the Matadors this season. Fifteen players have scored goals this year. Three of those players have scored in double figures led by Marisa Young (17 goals), Jenny Jamison (13) and Lindsy Duncan (12).
Kiernan Davis has recorded 26 saves in five games.

Lindsy Duncan's 12 goals this year gives her 174 for her four-year career, fourth-best in school history, and only three short of catching Chari Christopher (177, 2003-05) in third place … Marisa Young, the team's leading scorer with 17 goals, now has 138 career goals, seventh-best in school history … Jenny Jamison's 12 goals this year gives her a career total of 134, eighth-best in the Matador record book.
