Lindsy Nelson, Marisa Young Named ACWPC Water Polo All-Americans

Northridge, Calif. – Lindsy Nelson and Marisa Young, two players who helped the Cal State Northridge women's water polo team to a 23-win season and a #14 national ranking, were rewarded for their efforts by being named Honorable Mention All-Americans on Tuesday (7/2/13) by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).

Nelson and Young were named All-Americans on the heels of their recent inclusion as Academic All-League selections by the Big West Conference. In 2013, Nelson was a junior majoring in Kinesiology, while Young was a sophomore majoring in Marine Biology.

Nelson was the team's top scorer in 2013 with 70 goals (#5 in the Big West Conference, and sixth-best for a single season at CSUN). Her 70 goals included a career game against Sonoma State (1/27/13) when she scored seven goals, breaking her personal best of five goals last year against Bucknell, Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State San Bernardino. Nelson's seven goals tied the school record for single game goals that was originally set by Chari Christopher against Wagner (3/13/03) and Whitney Delgado against Cal State Bakersfield (2/12/11).

Nelson's scoring efforts netted her Honorable Mention All-Big West Conference accolades.

Nelson also collected 56 assists, tops on the Matadors and fifth-best for a single season at CSUN.

Young gained First Team All-Big West Conference honors with 50 goals, second-best on the team and eleventh-best in the conference. Young scored a season-high five goals against Occidental (3/2/13). Young also collected 29 field blocks, second-best on the team.

Nelson and Young will enter the 2014 season as two of the top scorers in school history. Nelson, in three seasons, has 162 career goals at Cal State Northridge, tied for fourth-best in school history with Jessica Coy (2005-09). Young has 115 career goals in two seasons at CSUN, tenth-best in school history.
