Kelcie Ferreira Named Women's Water Polo Player of the Week

Irvine, Calif. - Cal State Northridge sophomore Kelcie Ferreira (Trinidad & Tobago/Providence Catholic) collected a career-high four goals in the conference regular season finale to secure Big West Women's Water Polo Player of the Week honors.

The defender buried all four of her shot attempts in the 13-9 victory against UC Santa Barbara that clinched the Matadors the No. 5 seed in the Big West Tournament.  Ferreira scored in the clutch as three of her goals came in a span of one minute and 51 seconds early in the fourth period with CSUN clinging to a 10-8 lead.

Ferreira hit the first of those three goals at the 7:40 mark of the final period to give the Matadors an 11-8 advantage.  She put the Gauchos away with two more goals at 6:35 and 5:49 to give CSUN the final winning margin of 13-9.

In addition to her scoring prowess, Ferreira added a game-high three steals to go along with two assists.
