Long Beach, Calif. – Long Beach State solidified its #9 national ranking with an 11-5 defeat of 13th-ranked Cal State Northridge in a Big West Conference women's water polo game on Saturday afternoon.
After a 2-2 first period (both CSUN goals by Kelcie Ferreira), the 49ers exploded for four goals while holding the Matadors scoreless in the second period.
Long Beach State continued to up its advantage with an 8-3 third period lead, and outscored CSUN, 3-2, in the final period.
Chelsea Parks again proved to be the 49ers offensive threat. Earlier this year, Parks scored five goals to lead LBS to a 10-8 victory over Cal State Northridge at the UCSD Invitational. On Saturday, Parks scored four goals in the LBS victory.
The loss dropped CSUN's overall record to 20-9, and 2-2 in the conference. Long Beach is 22-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Cal State Northridge travels to seventh-ranked UC Irvine on Sunday. Game time is Noon.
