Irvine, Calif. – Kelcie Ferreira and Taitum Herrington each scored two goals but it wasn't enough as 15th ranked Cal State Northridge dropped a 12-7 decision to 16th-ranked Loyola Marymount on Saturday afternoon at the UC Invitational.
LMU led from start to finish. The Lions opened the game with a 5-3 lead and expanded the margin to three goals, 7-3, at the intermission.
Earlier in the day, for the second time this season, fifth-ranked Arizona State met 15th-ranked Cal State Northridge in a women's water polo game.
The Sun Devils again prevailed with an 11-6 verdict over the Matadors in a first round game at the UC Irvine Invitational.
ASU beat CSUN, 12-6, earlier this year at the Cal Baptist Tournament.
In the first encounter between the two teams, ASU's Alicia Brightwell scored six goals. The Matador defense held her to only one goal on Saturday. Shannon Haas was ASU's top scorer with three goals.
Cal State Northridge will continue competition Sunday (10:30 am) against Cal State Bakersfield.
