La Jolla, Calif. – Leah Janke scored three goals while Molly Henehan and Marisa Young added two goals apiece to lead 17th-ranked Cal State Northridge to a 9-7 victory over UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon at the UCSD Invitational.
Tied 2-2 after period, the Matadors ended halftime with a 4-3 advantage. CSUN then broke the game open outscoring the Tritons, 4-1, in the third period, to take a 7-5 lead.
Kiernan Davis collected ten saves against UC San Diego.
Earlier in the day, Cal State Northridge fell to Long Beach State, 10-8, in double overtime at the UCSD Invitational.
A Lindsy Nelson goal with 3:29 to play gave the Matadors an 8-7 lead. But the 49ers tied the game with 2:55 left on the clock and eventually sent the game into overtime at 8-8.
In collegiate water polo, two five-minute overtimes are played. Long Beach State scored a goal in each overtime while CSUN was held scoreless.
Jenny Jamison and Nelson scored two goals apiece to lead the Matadors in scoring.
