San Diego, Calif. – Eighth-ranked San Diego State stormed to a 6-1 halftime lead and never looked back in posting a 10-6 victory over 12th-ranked Cal State Northridge on a cold, rainy Sunday morning at the San Diego State Invitational.
The Matadors held their own in the second half, outscoring the Aztecs, 5-4.
Molly Henehan and Lindsy Nelson provided the scoring punch for Cal State Northridge. Each scored two goals. Henehan has now scored 15 goals for the season compared to Nelson who has posted 29 goals, third-best on the Matadors.
The loss dropped Cal State Northridge to 10-14. San Diego State is 15-6.
Tournament action for Cal State Northridge will continue on Sunday afternoon. At 3:45 p.m., the Matadors face Bucknell at 4:45 pm at the Aztec Aquaplex. It will be the second meeting between the two schools. Last Tuesday, the Matadors posted a 14-4 victory over the Bison.
