#13 Cal State Northridge Host Bucknell, Occidental

Northridge, Calif. – Over the past six weeks, Cal State Northridge has seen a dramatic rise in the national rankings.

   On Feb. 1, the Matadors were ranked 20th. In the weeks since Feb. 1, Cal State Northridge has jumped each week from 19th, to 17th, to 14th, and according to the latest CWPA national rankings, CSUN is now ranked 13th.

   Cal State Northridge has won four straight games, and after 19 games on the road (including five tournaments), the Matadors finally open its home season on March 13 against Bucknell and Occidental at the Campus Pool. Cal State Northridge will face Bucknell at 2 p.m., and Occidental at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.

   Cal State Northridge is currently 8-11. Twelve of its 19 games have been against teams that are nationally-ranked.

   CSUN's top four scorers are underclassmen. Freshman Marisa Young has emerged as the team leader in scoring with 34 goals. Young has scored at least one goal in 15 of the team's 19 games. Young, who graduated from Fountain Valley High School, has scored at least two goals in eleven games. That includes five goals against #16 Hartwick, four goals against Fresno Pacific, and three goals against sixth-ranked San Diego State, #16 UC Santa Barbara and a second game against Hartwick.

   Three sophomores, Jenny Jamison, Lindsy Nelson and Melissa Doll have scored 32, 19 and 14 goals, respectively.

   Dana Harvey, a senior, has collected 135 saves in 17 games this year. Harvey is averaging 9.19 saves per game.
