#16 UC Santa Barbara Defeats #19 Cal State Northridge, 10-8

   La Jolla, Calif. – #19 Cal State Northridge fell to #16 UC Santa Barbara, 10-8, during Sunday afternoon action at the UC San Diego Invitational.

   It was the second straight victory for the Gauchos over the Matadors this season. At the recent UCSB Invitational, UCSB recorded a 9-6 decision over Cal State Northridge.

   This time, UC Santa Barbara mounted an 8-4 lead with 2:14 remaining in the third period. Two straight goals by CSUN's Leah Janke and Jenny Jamison cut the Gaucho lead to 8-6 with 6:35 remaining in the game. UCSB added a goal to make it 9-6 Gauchos with 5:25 left.

   CSUN made one last push. Marisa Young and Jessica Goforth scored to pull to within one goal of the Gauchos at 9-8 with 4:18 on the clock.

   However, with 3:49 left, Kacey Creek scored the insurance goal for UCSB. Final Score – UC Santa Barbara 10, Cal State Northridge 8.

   Jessica Goforth led the Matadors with three goals. Jenny Jamison and Marisa Young added two goals apiece. Young, a freshman, led the CSUN in scoring during the two-day, four-game tournament with eight goals. Young is now the team leader in season scoring with 19 goals.

   UCSB raised its season record to 8-7. Cal State Northridge fell to 3-8.

   Earlier in the day at the UCSD Invitational, the University of Maryland, ranked 17th in the nation, raced to a 6-1 halftime lead and Cal State Northridge could never recover.

   Eventually, the Matadors fell to the Terrapins, 11-4.

   Maryland scored the game's first three goals in the first four minutes of the game before the Matadors could put a goal on the scoreboard, thanks to Jenny Jamison at the 3:29 mark.

   Maryland outscored the Matadors, 3-0, in the second period to take a 6-1 halftime lead.

   Melissa Doll, Alex Hoetker and Lindsy Nelson were the other goal scorers besides Jamison for Cal State Northridge.
