Matadors Battle, But Fall in Four Games at Pacific
STOCKTON, Calif. - After dropping the first two games, Cal State Northridge battled back to nearly force a fifth game as the Matadors fell at Pacific 30-15, 30-20, 26-30, 33-31 on Saturday at the Spanos Center.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the Big West. The loss drops the Matadors to 7-13 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
Freshman Alex Johnson (.290) and sophomore Angela Hupp (.250) each tallied a team-high 13 kills to lead Northridge. Freshman Brittany Williams (.290) came off the bench to also post double figures in kills with 11. Hupp completed a solid all-around match by adding 25 assists, six digs and five blocks. Also for the Matadors, Lynda Morales also added a match-high eight blocks, Amy Hultner had 18 digs and Kayla Wright chipped in 25 assists and a pair of aces.
For Pacific, Johanna Hilbers led a quartet of Tiger hitters in double figures with a match-high 19 kills (.457). Alexa Anderson (.320) and Svenja Engelhardt (.171) each added 13 kills and Kara Uhl added 12 (.179). Engelhardt also served 11 aces which tied a Pacific single match record. Tiger setter Shannon Krug posted a double-double with 61 assists and 10 digs in the win.
Cal State Northridge returns home to open a brief two-match homestand next Friday, Oct. 19 as the Matadors host Cal Poly at 7 p.m.
