Oregon State Knocks Off Matadors In Four Games
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Redshirt freshman Lynda Morales continued her solid play as she pounded a team-high 17 kills but Cal State Northridge came up short in a four-game decision (28-30, 30-26, 23-30, 23-30) to Oregon State Saturday at the Hornets Nest.
With the win, the Beavers improve to 5-3 while the loss drops the Matadors to 3-5.
Morales, who's previous career-high in kills came in Friday's 3-2 win over Manhattan, matched that total with 17 against Oregon State. She hit .500 in the Matadors' win on Friday and came back to hit .364 in a career-hig 33 swings against the Beavers on Saturday. Freshman Brittany Williams (14 kills, .333) and junior Val Kepler (13 kills, .360) also reached double figures in kills. Williams' 14 kills is a career-high. Kepler also added four blocks, as did Angela Hupp. Libero Amy Hultner dug a match-high 22 balls and also added one ace.
Rachel Rourke knocked down a match-high 23 kills (.425) to lead Oregon State.
The Beavers out-hit the Matadors .289 to .207 and had 13.0 team blocks to 6.0 for Northridge. The Matadors wrap up the Sacramento State Invitational on Saturday night against the host Hornets. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
