NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
One week after the Northridge women's soccer team participated in several team-building exercises with the Associated Students Recreation and Intramurals Department it was the Matador women's volleyball squad's turn on Tuesday, August 12.
Highlights from the session included exercises involving problem solving, learning how to depend on each other, overcoming fear and developing verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
"It was a great experience for both the team and the coaches," said Assistant Coach Kiran Mistry. "The players really got to know each other even better than they did before. We all had to work together to come up with solutions to unique situations."
The team was placed into four groups and faced such exercises as the rock climbing wall, the island, the mine field and had to work together using planks to traverse the field.
"The girls improved the communication skills they need to work together as a team," added Assistant Coach Susie Terrusa. "I think one of the main points was that they need to work together to achieve their goals."
The Matadors open the 2008 season Aug. 29 as Northridge heads to Boise, Idaho to take part in the Bronco Invitational. The Matadors open with Washington State at 5 p.m.
