Jeff Stork Leads SMBC 17-Black to Junior Olympic Gold Championship

ATLANTA, Ga. - Northridge women's volleyball head coach Jeff Stork led the Santa Monica Beach Club (SMBC) 17-Black Team to the Gold Division Championship of the Boys 17-and-under Open Tournament in Atlanta, Ga.

The national tournament ran from July 4-11 at the Georgia World Congress Center. Stork's team, made up of players from Palmdale, Thousand Oaks and the San Fernando Valley area, finished the tournament with a 10-3 record and finished first among 36 teams that qualified for the Open Tournament.

Stork's SMBC team included his son Matthew Stork as well as tournament MVP Tanner Nua, who will be a freshman at Cal State Northridge this fall.

"The tournament was a roller coaster ride for us," said Stork. "No team had the same tournament path we had. We had to play two play-in matches just to stay in the gold bracket."

Stork becomes the second Northridge coach to claim the 17-and-under national championship in the last two years. In 2006, Matador men's coach Jeff Campbell led a team from Pacific Palisades to the 17-and-under crown.
