Cal State Northridge head coach Jeff Stork has announced the signing of Nicole Jarvis as well as the addition of Sydney Gedryn and Megan Kirkpatrick to the Matador women's volleyball team.
Jarvis, a 6-2 middle from Oxnard High School in Oxnard, Calif., is the third signee for the Matadors for the 2010 season. Jarvis joins Natalie Allen and Mahina Haina who signed in the fall.
Jarvis was a first-team All-Pacific View league selection in 2009 for coach Pat Casey. She was also named team MVP and was her Yellow Jacket team won league championships all four seasons. She also was named first team all-league as a junior in 2008. In addition to her high school accolades, Jarvis also plays for Sports Shack Volleyball Club.
"Nicole is a local player for a very good high school and a very good club team," said Stork. "She is a very good blocker and we'll make her a better blocker in the system we run here. She's very untapped offensively but we've seen her do some tremendous things offensively and I think we'll be able to expand on that and make her even better."
Stork also announced that a pair of freshmen, Sydney Gedryn and Megan Kirkpatrick will walk-on in the fall. Gedryn is a 5-11 setter from San Jose, Calif., and Kirkpatrick is a 5-8 libero/defensive specialist from Long Beach, Calif.
The Matadors open the 2010 season on Aug. 27 against San Diego State in the opening match of the Aztec Invitational.
