Haina, Morales Power Matadors Past in Xavier in Four Sets

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Mahina Haina and Lynda Morales combined for 28 kills to lead Cal State Northridge to a 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 victory over Xavier Saturday morning at the UNLV Classic at Cox Pavilion.

The Matadors (5-7) had their second straight strong hitting match as Northridge hit .323 (56-14-130) after hitting a season-high .389 against UNLV on Friday.

Haina posted a career-high 15 kills while hitting .481 and now has 29 kills and just three errors in her last two matches. Morales added 13 kills and just two errors in 24 swings to hit .458 and fellow senior Janet Alvarado came off the bench to put down a career-high 11 kills (.321). Setter Sam Orlandini had 50 assists and nine digs to just miss out on her third double-double of the season.

Northridge hit .208 in dropping the opening set 25-23 but hit .368 in set two and a match-high .438 in set three. The Matadors hit .250 in the decisive fourth set but was helped by Xavier hitting just .176.

Chelsea Campbell led Xavier with a team-high 13 kills (.524) while Alex Smith added 12 kills (.400) and Shannon Voors chipped in 11 kills (.161).

Cal State Northridge looks to complete an unbeaten UNLV Classic Saturday evening as the Matadors meet San Jose State at 4:30 p.m.
