CSUN Ranked 24th in AVCA Top-25, Highest Ranking in School History

AVCA Division I Coaches Top-25 Poll - Oct. 28, 2013 

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge moved from the "Receivig Votes" category into the Top-25 this week according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association weekly poll announced Monday, Oct. 28.

The Matadors, who are 17-4 overall and share the lead in the Big West Conference at 7-1, received 135 points after upsetting eighth-ranked Hawai'i in five sets last Thursday, Oct. 24.

After eight consecutive weeks of receiving votes, the Matadors have entered the AVCA Top-25 for the first time since 1992. After taking down eighth-ranked Hawai'i in five sets last week, Cal State Northridge received 135 points and is ranked 24th in the week nine poll of the 2013 season. In week seven, the Matadors earned 43 points, which at the time was CSUN's highest point total of the season. Northridge has now been ranked or has received votes in nine straight AVCA Top-25 polls for the first time in school history. 

The last time a CSUN women's volleyball was ranked among the top-25 teams in the nation was the final poll of the 1992 season when the 27-7 Matadors were ranked 25th by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. CSUN, in its third year as a Division I Independent, was also ranked 20th in the final Volleyball Monthly Top-20 Poll and advanced to its first NCAA Div. I Tournament where the Matadors lost to USC 16-14, 15-8, 15-10.

CSUN hosts Cal State Fullerton this Thursday, Oct. 31 before concluding its current three-match homestand Saturday, Nov. 2 against UC Riverside.
