HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Cal State Northridge started Friday evening's match at the Stan Sheriff Center on a positive note, winning the first set by a score of 25-22 at No. 8 Hawai'i. Unfortunately for Northridge, the host Rainbow Wahine took the next three sets by scores of 18-25, 21-25, 20-25 to defeat the visiting Matadors.

Tied at six apiece in the first set, the Matadors built their first sizable advantage of the match by scoring five unanswered points on two kills from Mahina Haina, another kill earned by Sam Kaul and two Hawai'i (15-2, 8-0 BWC). attack errors to take an 11-6 lead midway through the frame.

Hawai'i was able to trim the Matadors' advantage to 23-22 only to watch Casey Hinger combine efforts with teammates Haina and Sydney Gedryn at the net to record consecutive blocks en route to a 25-22 CSUN (13-7, 4-4 BWC) set one victory.

Led by Kaul and Gedryn who finished with a team-high eight and seven blocks respectively, Northridge out-blocked Hawai'i by an 18-10 margin to set a new four-set season high.

Competing in front of a hometown crowd, Haina recorded seven kills (.182), six digs and three blocks. In addition to the junior outside hitter from Honolulu, Graff and Cieana Stinson also finished the match with seven kills each. Hinger led all Matadors with eight kills (.227).

CSUN's Cindy Ortiz recorded a match-high 31 digs, falling only one scoop shy of tying her season-high mark originally set against LIU-Brooklyn (Sept. 8).

Hawai'i's Emily Hartong led all players and tied her career high with 21 kills.

Cal State Northridge will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 18, to face the Pacific Tigers (16-3, 4-2 BWC) in the first of two Big West matches scheduled to take place inside the Matadome next week.
