IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Candyce Babb posted an NCAA Regional qualifier in the women's long jump and Reindell Cole and Cody Pearce had solid results on the men's side Saturday at the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium.
Babb, who came in with a previous season-best of 18-9.75 (5.73), jumped 19-9.75 (6.04) to win the women's long jump. Dominique Calvin also finished in the top-10 as she placed ninth with a leap of 18-8.50 (5.70).
In the women's hammer, Whitney Hooks finished a Northridge-best 18th with a throw of 127-1 (38.75) while Claire Morgan was 21st at 126-3 (38.49) and Stephanie Ralls placed 22nd at 124-7 (37.97). In the javelin, Jennifer Bowen was 13th with a mark of 109-10 (33.49).
On the men's side, sophomore Reindell Cole won the long jump with a leap of 25-7.25 (7.80). Cole already has a Regional qualifier with a jump of 25-9.50 (7.86).
Pearce, who came in with a season-best of 186-8 (56.89) in the hammer, approached his lifetime-best with a throw of 192-11 (58.80) to finish third. Robert Mestas also finished 14th in the javelin on Saturday with a mark of 159-1 (48.50).
The meet resumes Sunday with field events beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the first track event at 12:00 p.m.
