Sherrina Lofton Readies for First NCAA Indoor Championships

Cal State Northridge senior Sherrina Lofton (Fairfield, Calif.) begins her quest for her first NCAA title as the Pentathlon competition opens Friday at Texas A&M University's Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
Lofton, who scored a school record 4,092 points to win the MPSF Indoor Championship in February, comes into the NCAA Championships with the seventh-best point total. Oregon's Brianne Theisen, the defending NCAA champion, comes in with the collegiate record score of 4,507 points.
A total of 16 women will compete in the Pentathlon which opens at 10 a.m. local time Friday morning with the first of five events, the 60 meter hurdles. The high jump is scheduled for approximately 10:50 a.m. followed by the shot put (est. 12:45 p.m.), the long jump (est. 1:45 p.m.) and the 800 meters (est. 2:45 p.m.)
Lofton's best time in the 60 hurdles this season came at the MPSF Championships when she ran 8.77. Her top height in the high jump also came at the MPSF meet where she cleared an indoor career-best height of 5-8 (1.73). During the conference pentathlon, she also posted her best shot put mark of 38-9 (11.81) and her best time in the 800 (2:18.35). Lofton's best mark of the season in the long jump (18-8.50, 5.70) came at the Boise State Team Challenge on Feb. 11.
