Matador Track & Field Opens Indoor Season Friday at Idaho State

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge track and field opens the 2009 indoor season this weekend as the Matadors travel to Idaho State to compete against BYU, Weber State, Southern Utah and Idaho State at the Bengal Shootout.

The meet gets underway Friday, Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Holt Arena on the Idaho State campus. The first events Friday include the men's pole vault, men's weight throw and women's long jump.

Northridge will send a contingent of 34 student-athletes to the meet including 19 men and 15 women.

2008 All-American Desirae Gonder will make her 2009 debut after a solid sophomore season while All-MPSF jumper Rolando Felizola returns after redshirting in 2008.

Several athletes will be making their Matador track and field debut at the meet including hurdler Michael Woodham, sprinter Ben Santos and pole vaulter Matt Todd on the men's side and pole vaulters Megan Hill and Brittany Hamilton along with sprinters Jasmine Cox and LaShandra Batiste and thrower Claire Morgan on the women's side.
