More Big West Quallifiers for Matadors at Tiny Lister Classic

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Cal State Northridge added six Big West qualifiers on Saturday at the Tommie "Tiny" Lister Classic at Cal State Los Angeles. The Matador women got event wins from Ese Ntekume, Whitney Hooks and Morgan Bogard.

Ntekume won the long jump with a season-best 17-9.50 (5.42) while Hooks claimed the shot put with a toss of 45-7 (13.89) and Bogard took the discus title with a mark of 142-8 (43.49).

On the track, Shelese Ruffin ran a season-best and Big West qualifying time of 24.59 to finish fifth in the 200 meters while Precious Watkins also posted a qualifying time of 24.60 to finish sixth. Desirae Gonder, who already had a Big West qualifying time, ran a personal-best 24.68 to finish seventh and Crystal Spears also PR'd in a time of 24.86.

Sierra Brooks clocked a time of 57.16 in the 400 meters to also reach the Big West standard. Brooks time was good for fourth and was followed by Spears (57.73) and LaShandra Batiste (57.98) who narrowly missed the qualifying time.

Jasmine Cox took second in the 800 meters in 2:14.66 while Vanessa Carr (2:22.63) and Natalie Wollaston (2:24.33) each ran a season-best.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Gonder clocked a personal-best 14.73 to finish fifth while Ntekume was eighth in 15.41. Vanice Colbert ran 63.02 to take second in the 400 hurdles followed by Brenna Hoffman was third in a PR of 64.17.

The Matador 4x100 relay team also ran a season-best 46.25.

In the field events, Ruffin doubled up by finished second in the high jump clearing the Big West standard at 5-3 (1.60). Ashley Griffith was third, also at 5-3 (1.60) giving Northridge two more conference qualifiers.

Northridge also got season-bests from Griffith and Jenna Hulion in the long jump as Griffith posted a best of 16-8.50 (5.09) and Hulion finished eighth at 16-7.75 (5.07).

Already conference qualifiers in the discus, Bogard took first, Claire Morgan was second at 141-5 (43.11) and Hooks also had a conference qualifer at 141-4 (43.09) which is a career-best.

Cal State Northridge has two more meets (UC Irvine and Occidental) before the Big West Championships.
