Northridge-San Francisco Tennis Match Cancelled

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team's match against San Francisco scheduled for Sunday, April 4 was cancelled due to inclement weather. The Matadors will remain in Northern California for its next two matches, crucial Big West contests against UC Davis (April 6) and Pacific (April 7).
The Matadors and Dons will scrimmage Monday afternoon to get in some action before the important league matches. At 2-3 in the Big West and 8-6 overall, Northridge is currently tied with both UC Davis and Pacific for fifth in the Big West.
Last week Northridge split its matches, sweeping UC Riverside, 7-0, before falling 5-2 to No. 53 Arizona. Sophomore Nigora Sirojiddinova and freshman Maria Pistalu continue to lead the Matadors in singles wins.
Sirojiddinova was 2-0 in her singles matches last week, both at the fourth draw. She is now a team-best 11-2 on the season and 25-12 in her CSUN career. In her first year from Munich, Pistalu is 10-3 on the season, mostly at the fifth and sixth draw.
As a doubles team, Sirojiddinova and Pistalu are 9-3 on the season. All of their doubles matches have been played at the No. 3 draw.
The Matadors' three junior captains have also put together a solid season thus far for head coach Gary Victor. Brooke Doane is 7-7 in her first season at the No. 1 draw for Northridge. She is 3-2 in Big West play and 7-7 overall.
Doane earned Big West Player of the Week honors on Mar. 9 after toppling UC Irvine's Stephanie Hammell. The victory over Hammell was Doane's first career victory over a ranked opponent.
In addition to her work in singles, Doane has teamed with freshman Anna Yang to post a 9-4 record in No. 1 doubles. Doane is now 47-8 in her doubles career and earned All-Big West Doubles First Team honors following the 2009 season.
Nina Jaworowski enters the contest against UC Davis with a 6-5 overall record and a 1-3 mark in Big West action. Fellow junior Whitney Paluch is 6-7 on the season in singles play and 2-3 against league foes.
In doubles, Jaworowski and Paluch have teamed to sport an 8-5 record in No. 2 doubles play. Jaworowski earned All-Big West Singles Second Team honors following the 2009 season.
