NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's tennis will play UC Davis at 1 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Cal State Northridge as was previously scheduled. The Matadors had to cancel their contest with UC Santa Barbara because of inclement weather in Northridge. That match is now slated for Mar. 5 in Northridge.
The Matadors and Aggies will play their Big West match at the Matador Tennis Complex with first serve among doubles competition slated for 1 p.m.
Northridge is 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the Big West. The Matadors will travel to Hawai'i shortly for a four-match roadtrip in Hawai'i. In the tropics, CSUN will face Hawai'i-Pacific, Hawai'i, San Diego State and BYU-Pacific. It will also be a homecoming for CSUN senior Brooke Doane, one of the most accomplished players in school history.
Doane is coming off her second career Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors. In league matches against Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State, she posted a perfect 4-0 combined record in singles and doubles play.
In the match against the Titans, she teamed with Jennifer Sher to win 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles draw over Monica Rodriguez and Tiffany Mai. In singles action, she toppled Mai in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
Against the nationally ranked 49ers, Doane and Sher helped the Matadors claim the first point of the match. They won their No.1 doubles draw 8-5 over Deborah Armstrong and Anais Dallara. In singles work, she posted the first win over Long Beach State of her career with a thrilling, three-set victory over Jaklin Alawi: 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4.
Doane and Sher are now a perfect 6-0 on the season at the No. 1 doubles draw and have entered the ITA Rankings as the No. 78 doubles tandem in the nation. For her career, Doane owns a 56-12 (.824) double record, the best winning percentage and the second-most doubles wins in school history.
She has earned All-Big West Doubles First Team honors the past two seasons and earned Second Team honors during her freshman season in 2009. What may be more remarkable is that Doane has accomplished all this success in doubles with a different playing partner in all four of her seasons at CSUN.
In singles action, Doane is now 3-3 on the season and 36-30 for her career. She earned All-Big West Singles Second Team honors in 2009. This is the second time in her career that Doane has been named Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, also having received the award on Mar. 9, 2010.
