Juniors Whitney Paluch, Brooke Doane and Nina Jaworowski turned in impressive performances for the Cal State Northridge women's tennis at the ITA Women's College Regionals in San Diego. Paluch picked up a three-set victory over Sianna Simmons from Arizona State in the opening round of the event, winning 3-6, 7-6 (5) and 6-3.

Paluch, who is in her third season with the program, overcame that opening-set loss to beat Simmons and was the only Matador to win their opening-round match. Paluch would fall to Rachel Manasse of Long Beach State in the next round, 6-4 and 6-3.

In other singles action, Jaworowski rebounded from an earlier loss to defeat SDSU's Emma Cioffi, 6-4 and 6-1, in the consolation bracket. Doane mirrored her teammate, recording a three-set victory over UC Irvine's Courtney Byron, 3-6, 6-2 and 6-3. Both Matadors would fall in the next round.

Also competing in singles action for Northridge were Amira Massi, Ryma Korab and Anna Yang. All three dropped both of their singles decisions at the event.

In doubles action, Doane and freshman Anna Yang reached the semifinals of the doubles consolation bracket by posting two impressive victories. After falling to 9-7 to a team from USC, the duo defeated Arizona's Jane Huh and Deborah Castany, 8-0, and LMU's Estelle LePorte and Jasmin Heckel, 8-5.

They nearly advanced to the finals, dropping a hard-fought 9-7 decision to USC's Christi Andrews and Leyla Entekhabi. In two seasons, Doane has constructed a 38-4 career doubles record, translating to the best winning percentage in school history.

Paluch and Jaworowski also participated in doubles play, but lost their two matches. In the consolation bracket, they dropped a tough 9-8 (4) decision to UCSB's Bryanna Ojeda and Asagi Onaga.

Head Coach Gary Victor and Northridge have one event remaining in their fall season. CSUN will host the Matador Invitational at the Matador Tennis Complex from November 13-15. The Matadors open their 2010 season with a home match against UC San Diego on Feb. 6 at 12:30 p.m.
