NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (11-7) defeated Portland, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex. CSUN took the doubles point and won three singles matches to earn a non-conference victory over the Pilots.
Portland traveled with only five players to the match, and thus had to surrender the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles match before even getting started.
Northridge won the two doubles matches contested Saturday. Brooke Doane and Anna Yang defeated Lacy Pflibsen and Megan Sporndli, 8-1. At the second doules draw, Nina Jaworowski and Whitney Paluch took a 4-0 (2) victory over Valeska Hoath and Stefanie Doolittle.
Jaworowski and Paluch did not play to eight games because Doane and Yang had finished, thus securing the doubles point for CSUN.
In singles action, Doane recorded a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Pflibsen at the No. 2 draw. Nigora Sirojiddinova posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Stephanie Fuchs at the No. 3 draw. Those two wins, coupled with the doubles point and the forfeiture of the No. 6 singles match, gave the Matadors the 4-0 victory.
Jaworowski, Paluch and Maria Pistalu all competed in singles play, but did not finish their respective matches because CSUN had clinced the victory.
Northridge returns to the court on Tuesday, April 20, when they travel to Loyola Marymount. First serve is slated for 1:30 p.m.
