NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (9-6, 3-3 Big West) recorded an important 6-1 decision over Big West rival UC Davis Tuesday afternoon. The Matadors swept doubles and lost only five sets in singles play to defeat the Aggies.

The Matadors, who hadn't played since a 5-2 loss to No. 53 Arizona on April 2, took the momentum early in the match and never looked back. CSUN swept doubles play to earn the opening point in the contest.

At No. 1, Brooke Doane and Anna Yang teamed for an 8-3 victory over Herzyl Legaspi and Desiree Stone. The duo is now 10-4 on the season, all at the No. 1 draw.

In the second-seeded match, Nina Jaworowski and Whitney Paluch recorded an 8-6 victory over Ellie Edles and Dahra Zamudio. The two juniors are now 9-5 on the year in doubles play, all at the No. 2 draw.

Finally, Nigora Sirojiddinova and Maria Pistalu took an 8-6 decision over Lauren Curry and Noelle Eades in the No. 3 match. As a doubles team, the two underclassmen are now 10-3 on the year.

In singles play, Matador head coach Gary Victor shuffled his line-up, moving players all throughout the order.

Jaworowski played at No. 1 for the first time this season, toppling Stone in three sets, 4-6, 7-6 (5) and 5-2, before Stone retired from the match. Doane played No. 2 for CSUN, falling to Zamudio in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-0.

At No. 3, Sirojiddinova defeated Legaspi in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-4. She is now a team-best 12-2 on the season. Tuesday was her highest-seeded singles win of the season.

Paluch played in the fourth draw and rallied to a 7-5, 1-6 and 6-4 victory over Curry. The win was Paluch's third in her last nine matches and evens her record at 7-7 for the season.

At No. 5, Maria Pistalu improved to 11-3 in her rookie season with a three-set win. She defeated Ellie Edles 7-5, 3-6 and 5-4 (7-4) and she has now won four of her past five matches.

Finally, Yang won at the sixth draw for CSUN to improve to 9-6 on the season. She defeated Sidney Brady in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-2.

For CSUN, the win broke a tie with UCD for fifth in the conference standings. The Matadors will now take on Pacific Wednesday.
