NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Despite falling 4-2 to No. 64 UC Irvine, the Cal State Northridge women's tennis team saw several impressive performances. Junior Brooke Doane took home a victory in the No. 1 singles match, defeating No. 80 Stephanie Hammel in three sets, 6-7, 6-3 and 6-0.
The loss moves the Matadors record to 4-2 overall and 1-2 mark in the Big West Conference.
Doane, who improved to 5-1 on the season all at the No. 1 draw, topped the nationally ranked Hammel in the last match of the day. The other Matador picking up a victory was Maria Pistalu, who won her sixth-seeded match, 6-3 and 6-4. She is now 3-1 on the season.
In other action, Courtney Byron defeated Nina Jaworowski in the second match, 6-3, 6-3. Brooke Bartlett topped Whitney Paluch at the No. 3 draw, winning 6-4, 6-2.
Becka Kwan topped Nigora Sirojiddinova, 6-3 and 6-4, in the No. 4 match. Finally, Kristina Smith edged Anna Yang, 6-2 and 7-5, in the fifth draw.
The teams did not play doubles.
