Northridge Tennis Suffers 6-1 Loss to Cal Poly

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (3-1, 1-1 BWC) fell 6-1 to Cal Poly Saturday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex. Sophomore Nigora Sirojiddinova won the fifth draw 6-3, 4-6 and 11-9 over Alexa Lee to give the Matadors their only point on the day.

Having entered the match at 3-0 having not lost a doubles set and only dropping three singles sets, the Matadors suffered their first loss of the season.

In doubles, CP took the point by handing each CSUN doubles team their first loss of the season. At the top draw, Brittany Blalock and Suzie Matzenauer toppled Brooke Doane and Anna Yang, 8-2. In the No. 2 match, Steffi Wong and Diane Filip defeated Nina Jaworowski and Whitney Paluch, 8-2.

Finally, the Mustangs completed the doubles sweep as Alexa Lee and Ashley Pane bested Sirojiddinova and Maria Pistalu, 8-3

In singles action, two Matadors went to a decisive third set before losing. Doane fell 3-6, 7-5 and 6-3 to Matzenauer at the top draw and Paluch lost 6-3, 3-6 and 6-3 to Wong in the No. 3 match.

Nina Jaworowski fell 6-2, 7-5 to Blalock in the No. 2 match and Yang lost her fourth draw to Filip, 6-4, 6-2. Finally, Pistalu came up short against Jocelyn Davis, falling 6-3 and 6-1 at No. 6.

In an exhibition match, Ryma Korab defeated Ashley Pane, 6-1.

Northridge returns to the court Wednesday when it hosts Cal State Los Angeles. First serve from the Matador Tennis Complex is slated for 2 p.m.
