Northridge's Sweep Streak Continues at Cal State Fullerton

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (3-0) swept its third-straight match to open the 2010 season, defeating Cal State Fullerton 7-0 at the Titan Courts. The Matadors took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point, then won four of the singles matches in straight sets.

Through three matches, CSUN has not lost a doubles set and has dropped only three sets in 18 singles matches.

In doubles play, Brooke Doane and Anna Yang defeated Tiffany Mai and Monica Rodriguez, 8-2, in the top doubles match. Doane now stands at 41-2 for her career in doubles competition.

At the second draw, Whitney Paluch and Nina Jaworowski topped Malorie dela Cruz and Erin Wiesener, 8-2. Finally, in the closest match of the doubles draw, Nigora Sirojiddinova and Maria Pistalu defeated Jerusha Cruz and Karina Akhmedova in the third match.

Moving to singles, Doane, Jaworowski, Sirojiddinova and Pistalu all recorded straight-set victories. Doane won 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 draw. Jaworowski toppled Rodriguez 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 match. Sirojiddinova defeated Jerusha Cruz 6-0, 6-1 in the fifth match and Pistalu won 6-2, 6-3 over Akhmedova in the No. 6 match.

In the fourth match, Paluch rebounded from a first set loss to defeat Wiesener 6-7, 6-2 and 10-7. Finally, Yang rallied from a 6-2 loss in the first set to win the next two 6-2 and 6-0 to complete the CSUN sweep.

Northridge returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 20, when the Matadors host Cal Poly in a Big West Conference match. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
