NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (4-3, 1-1 Big West) posted a 7-0 shutout over Cal State Fullerton in a Big West Conference match Tuesday afternoon. The Matadors did not lose a set all day and lost only 23 games in their six singles matches.
On a windy day in the San Fernando Valley, Cal State Northridge jumped out to the early lead by taking all three doubles matches. Brooke Doane and Jennifer Sher improved to 5-0 on the season with an 8-2 victory. All of their victories, including two in the Big West Conference, have been at the No. 1 draw.
In singles action, CSUN dominated its rivals from Orange County. Doane led the charge with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 draw. Sher lost only one game in two sets and Jaworowski dropped just three in winning and the second and third draw, respectively.
In the bottom half of the bracket, Nigora Sirojiddinova cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 4 seed. Yang won her fourth singles match of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 5. Pistalu won her second singles match of the year at No. 6 to complete the sweep.
The Matadors' win over the Titans improved CSUN to 1-1 against Big West opponents. Northridge's next three matches will all be againt Big West opposition. On Feb. 12, CSUN travels to Long Beach State to face the nationally ranked 49ers.
On Feb. 19, Northridge faces UC Santa Barbara at noon, followed by a match against UC Davis the next day. Following the Feb. 20 contest with the Aggies, CSUN will travel to Hawai'I for its next four contests.
