The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (11-7, 3-3 Big West) lost 5-2 to UC Davis Tuesday afternoon in a Big West Conference match in Davis, Calif. Freshmen Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei continued their stellar freshmen seasons by winning in both doubles and singles against the Aggies.
Hsu, a freshman from Taiwan, and Poei, a freshman from Honolulu, have teamed up to form one of the conference's top doubles tandems. They improved to 15-1 (.938) on the season with an 8-5 victory in the top doubles draw. They are now 5-1 against Big West competition.
In singles action, Hsu and Poei each earned a point for CSUN. Hsu won in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 2 draw to improve to 10-7 overall and 4-2 against league foes. Poei also won in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) to improve to 10-6 overall and 4-2 against league opposition.
The loss snapped a five-match winning streak for the Matadors. They will remain on the road for their next two contests, traveling up the coast to face Westmont (April 12) and UC Santa Barbara (April 13).
The Matadors close out the 2014 regular season with a home match against Hawai'i on Sunday, April 20. First serve is slated for 10 a.m. from Matador Tennis Complex.
