NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (1-1, 0-1 Big West) lost 4-3 to Cal State Fullerton in its Big West opener Saturday afternoon. Although CSUN won the top three singles contests, the Matadors could not overcome a pair of 9-8 decisions in doubles action in losing to the Titans.
In doubles play, seniors Anna Yang and Sabrina Man-Son-Hing cruised to an 8-2 victory in the No. 1 contest. However, the Titans responded by winning a pair of 9-8 decisions in the No. 2 and No. 3 draws to claim the match's first point.
In singles, Yang and Man-Son-Hing posted straight-set victories at the second and third draw, respectively. Fellow senior Maria Pistalu added a three-set decision in the top draw to give CSUN a 3-1 advantage.
However, Lorraine Cheung, Jessica Warren and Corinne Schnyder all suffered straight-set losses in the fourth-sixth draw, respectively, and Cal State Fullerton escaped the San Fernando Valley with a narrow victory.
The Matadors remain at home for their next match, hosting Southern Utah on Feb. 8 at Matador Tennis Complex.
