CSUN Tennis Records 7-0 Sweep at CSU Bakersfield

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (5-3) defeated CSU Bakersfield 7-0 in a non-conference match in Bakersfield Saturday afternoon. In sweeping the Roadrunners, the Matadors did not lose a single set and lost only two games out of 26 competed in doubles play. 

Playing the first of two road matches on consecutive days, CSUN set an early tone with a solid showing in doubles play. Jennifer Sher and Sabrina Man-Son-Hing improved to 5-2 at the No. 1 draw with an 8-0 shutout. Nigora Sirojiddinova and Anna Yang duplicated the shutout at the No. 2 draw and Maria Pistalu and Lorraine Cheung posted an 8-2 decision at the third draw.

In singles action, the Matadors continued to overpower the Roadrunners and did not lose a single set in six matches. Sher lost only one game in her top-seeded victory. Sirojiddinova lost only three games in her second seeded contest and Pistalu won 6-4 and 6-1 in the third draw.

In the bottom half of the draw, Yang won 6-4 and 6-1 at No. 4. Cheung lost only one game in her fifth-seeded match and Amber Walker, who improved to 2-0, duplicated that effort by dropping only game in her sixth-seeded contest.

Sirojiddinova has now won five-straight singles contests.  Northridge returns to action Sunday, Mar. 7 with a contest at Fresno State.
