NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
With a number of leagues entering the second half of their respective seasons, Athletic Media Relations staff members Nick Bocanegra, Lauren Olivas, and Jaclyn Rymer provide the latest statistics and information pertaining to Softball Assistant Coach Kia Fennell and a number of student-athletes from the Matador baseball team as they compete on a variety of teams across the country.
Left-Handed Pitcher, USSSA Pride – National Pro Fastpitch
Softball Assistant Coach Fennel has appeared in six games this season at the plate and has a stolen base. On the mound, she pitched a shutout inning on June 17 in a 2-0 loss to the Rockford Thunder, retiring three of four batters faced.
Right-Handed Pitcher, Humboldt Crabs – West Coast League
With the Crabs preparing for the start of league competition, DeBoo leads all pitchers with his 0.36 ERA, and 4-0 record in his nine appearances. DeBoo is the only member on staff who has not allowed an extra base hit (min. ten innings pitched) helping his team craft a league-leading 5-1 record. Last week, DeBoo pitched a total of six innings against the Nevada Bighorns, allowed only three hits while striking out seven batters.
Right-Handed Pitcher, Palm Springs Power – Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association
Longpre picked up two innings on the mound for the Power over the past week, striking out five batters while only giving up one hit. On the season, Longpre has pitched a total of 20 innings, striking out a total of 25 batters, giving up only six hits and six walks. He is batting 1.000 after one at-bat, and currently leads the Power pitching staff with a perfect 0.00 ERA, 15 games pitched, and three saves.
Pitcher/First Baseman, San Luis Obispo Blues – Sierra Baseball League
Peterson pitched one inning over the past week for the Blues and faced four batters, striking out three while walking one. On the season, Peterson holds a 0.00 ERA with five strikeouts in three appearances on the mound. In his three innings pitched, opposing batters are only hitting .100, the lowest opposing batting average of any pitcher on staff.
Second Baseman, Wareham Gatemen – Cape Cod League
Pineda hit .211 this past week with three RBIs, two runs and three walks. On July 5, Pineda reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs in an 8-5 loss to the Bourne Braves. Through sixteen games, he is hitting .200 with 11 hits, eight runs, six RBIs, four doubles and seven walks for the Gatemen.
Second Baseman, Sedalia Bombers – M.I.N.K League
With the Bombers entering the last three weeks of the season, Reed continues to swing a solid bat, leading the team once again with his .346 average. As of July 7, Reed led the team with six stolen bases and eight sacrifice bunts, and ranked second on the team with his 27 hits.
Outfielder, Edenton Steamers – Coastal Plain League
Swanson continues to dominate at the plate for Edenton as he leads the team with a .346 batting average, and ranks third on the team with his 28 hits and five doubles. Having successfully stolen 14 bases in 17 attempts last season, Swanson now has now swiped six bags in seven attempts this summer.
Shortstop, San Luis Obispo Rattlers - California Collegiate League
Vickers started in three games over the past week (two at shortstop and one as a designated hitter), had a total of three hits, one walk and two runs helping his team build a five-game win streak. On the season, Vickers is hitting .135 with 52 at-bats, six runs, seven hits and an on-base percentage of .262. He has the second best figure on the Rattlers in walks with nine, has committed only one error, and holds a .982 fielding percentage.
