Fresh off a 4-1 record and tournament title at The Worth Invitational, the Cal State Northridge softball team (12-8) welcomes the University of Texas for a doubleheader Tuesday at Matador Diamond. The Matadors witnessed impressive pitching and hitting performances at The Worth Invitational, with a pair of rookies, Jaci Carlsen and Hannah Fraijo, leading the charge.

The first game starts at 1 p.m. and the second game begins 30 minutes after the completion of the second game. Both games will be available on gametracker. 

As a team, CSUN hit .283 over the weekend with Carlsen's .455 average pacing the squad. She hit her second home run of the season against Portland State and finished the five games with four runs, three RBIs and two doubles. For the season, she is batting .268 with eight RBIs and nine runs and owns a .412 on-base percentage.

In the circle, Fraijo led the Matador pitchers with a 2-0 record, a 0.53 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 13.1 innings of work. She tossed a shutout against Quinnipiac on Mar. 7 and finished off Portland State on Mar. 8 with four innings of relief work to earn her second win of the weekend. For the season, she is 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA and 31 K's.

The Matadors also find themselves among the conference leaders in numerous categories entering the week. Christina Saenz leads the Big West Conference in both batting average (.440) and on-base percentage (.547). She also ranks sixth in slugging percentage (.560), seventh with 14 RBIs and tied for seventh with 22 hits.

Jaclyn Rymer and Tracy Allen check in tied for eighth place with 14 runs scored each and Rymer's .424 on-base percentage ranks ninth in the league. Micah Putnam leads CSUN and ranks in a tie for fourth in the league with her 15 RBIs. She also ranks secondin the league with six sac bunts and in a tie with Allen for third in the conference with five stolen bases.

Karla Chaparro leads the team and checks in at second in the league with six stolen bases. Alexandria Alvarado's five doubles lead the team and ranks tied for fifth in the conference.

In the circle, Fraijo leads the league by holding opponents to a .169 batting average. Her 1.91 ERA ranks sixth in the conference and she is tied for first with her one save. Debbie Duran ranks seventh in the league with her 2.00 ERA, fifth in innings pitched at 66.2 and is tied for third with seven wins.

The Matadors also rank second as team in fielding percentage at .968 and their team ERA of 2.65 is third among the eight Big West schools.

Texas enters Tuesday's doubleheader with a 16-5 overall record after splitting a doubleheader with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi over the weekend. Texas is hitting .315 as a team with four regulars batting over .350 for the season. Loryn Johnson leads the Longhorns with a .463 batting average and 20 RBIs. Desiree Williams has four home runs, 19 runs scored and 14 RBIs.

In the circle, Torrey Schroeder leads the Longhorns with a 7-1 record and 3.01 ERA. She has started 10 games this season and fanned 48 batters in 54.2 innings of work. Brittan Barnhill has started seven games for UT in the circle, posting a 7-2 record, 3.63 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 46.1 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .264 for the season off the Texas staff.

This will be the first time that the two schools have not played at a neutral site. The Longhorns hold a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series between the schools, winning the last game 5-0 on Feb. 9, 2007 in Tempe, Ariz.

Following the Tuesday twinbill with Texas, CSUN heads to San Diego to participate in the San Diego Classic II. At the tournament jointly hosted by San Diego State and the University of San Diego, Northridge will face three Big 12 schools (Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Iowa State) while also facing Miami (OH) and San Diego State. All Northridge games will be played on the campus of San Diego State.
