Matador Softball Hosts Advanced Softball Showcase

The Cal State Northridge softball program will hold an Advanced Softball Showcase on Jan. 30, 2011 at Matador Diamond. The one-day event, limited to 40 girls grades 8-12, will offer softball players a chance to participate in a series of drill aimed to enhance their play while working with the CSUN Softball staff.

The camp is geared toward the serious softball player looking to continue their career at the college level, but is open to any and all interested participants. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Matador Diamond and will cost $180.

In addition to drills, players will also participate in game situations and position-specific drills.

The CSUN coaching staff will host the event and has experience at all levels of competitive softball.

In her first season as head coach, Tairia Flowers is a former Olympian (2004 & 2008) and National Champion during her career at UCLA. Assistant coach Caitlin Benyi is a former three-time All-American and two-time National Champion at UCLA. Assistant Coach Tia Meza, who works with the Matador pitchers, was a two-time All-American at Washington and a former Gatorade National Player of the Year. Finally, volunteer coach Natasha Watley is a two-time Olympian (2004 & 2008) and a current member of Team USA Softball.
