Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton defeated the Cal State Northridge softball team (27-20, 7-11 BWC) Sunday at Anderson Family Field, 3-1, in a Big West Conference contest. Amanda Pitzenberger tossed a complete game for the Matadors, but received little support from the CSUN offense.

The complete-game effort was Pitzenberger's second of the season. She scattered eight hits in her six innings of work and is now 3-2 on the season with an 3.13 ERA and 17 K's in 47.0 innings of work.

She avoided early trouble in the second. The Titans loaded the bases with one out following a bunt single. However, Pitzenberger got the next batter to hit a sac fly to left and recorded the final out of the inning on a pop out to first base.

Fullerton added to its lead in the bottom of the third innings, getting a two-out, two-run home run to take a 3-0 lead.

Northridge got its first base runner of the game in the top of the fourth when Jaclyn Rymer was hit by a pitch to start the frame. She moved to second on a sac bunt by Karla Chaparro, but was stranded on third when the inning ended.

Jennifer Mosier was the second Matador to reach base, getting hit by a pitch to start the sixth. She did not advance to another base in the inning.

Micah Putnam broke up Krystal Heinle's no-hitter in the seventh inning, driving a single up the middle with one out. It was CSUN's only hit of the game.

Jaci Carlsen then hit a ball to short that the Titan infielder bobbled, allowing her to reach. On the play, Putnam broke for third and the Titan first baseman overthrew the third basemen, allowing Putnam to score and move Carlsen to second. However, the next Matador grounded out to end the game.

Heinle allowed just the one hit and in getting her second complete-game victory against the Matadors during the weekend.

The Matadors wrap up their 2009 regular season schedule next week, heading to Northern California to face UC Davis. Northridge will play three games against the Aggies, with a doubleheader slated for May 8 and a single game on May 9. Both days are slated to start at noon.
