NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Jaci Carlsen's single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in the winning run to give Cal State Northridge (24-20, 8-4 BWC) a 2-1 victory over UC Santa Barbara (10-33, 1-11) Sunday afternoon at Matador Diamond, its second-straight series sweep over a league opponent. The Matadors have now won a season-best seven-straight games, all against Big West rivals.
Carlsen's seventh-inning single was the second-walk off hit in as many days for the Matadors. Junior Tracy Allen drove in the winning run in game one of the series on Saturday in similar fashion. Allen's single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh drove brought home Jennifer Mosier to give CSUN the 5-4 victory in that contest.
In the circle, Hannah Fraijo tossed a complete game, giving up just one run on two hits while fanning two Gauchos and issuing just two walks to give the sophomore her team-leading 15th victory of the season. For the year, she is 15-6 with a 3.01 ERA and 89 K's in 146.2 innings of work.
With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Alex Alvarado gave the Matadors an early lead when the right-fielder blasted a 2-1 pitch deep over the left-center field fence to put CSUN up 1-0.
CSUN would maintain its 1-0 lead until the top of the seventh, when UCSB would score its only run of the afternoon off a solo home run by shortstop Keilani Jennings.
In the bottom of the seventh, Northridge put a runner in scoring position when Lauren Olivas moved to second base off of a Jaclyn Rymer sacrifice bunt. Mosier was then intentionally walked to set up the dramatic finish.
Krista Cobb took a tough loss for the Gauchos. Cobb went 6.2 innings and scattered just five hits while striking out three Matadors.
Northridge returns to action on Saturday, May 1 when it heads to San Luis Obispo, Calif., to take on Cal Poly. The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday and then a single game on Sunday, with both days starting at noon.
