NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (23-20, 7-4 Big West) extended its winning streak to six games with a pair of Big West victories over UC Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon at Matador Diamond. CSUN rallied to win game one 5-4 and then took a 4-1 decision in game two.

Since starting the season 1-9, Northridge is now 22-11 over its past 33 games. That record includes the team's current six-game winning streak, all of which have come against Big West opponents.

In game one, Tracy Allen, the reining Big West Player of the Week, continued to flex her offensive muscle. She finished 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs, including the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. She now leads the Matadors with a career-high 32 RBIs on the season.

In the circle, Hannah Fraijo tossed a complete game in the 5-4 victory to improve her season record to 14-6. The sophomore scattered six hits and three walks while striking out two in the contest.

UCSB took an early 3-0 lead in the first game, scoring once in the second and twice in the third. Northridge tied it up in the bottom of the third when Jaci Carlsen was hit with the bases loaded and Allen delivered a two-run single.

The Gauchos reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth only to see CSUN answer immediately in its half of the frame. That set up the dramatic seventh inning, which was started by a one-out infield single by Jennifer Mosier. Krista Cobb took the loss in game one for UCSB.

Game two belonged to CSUN starter Amanda Pitzenberger. A senior, Pitzenberger tossed a complete game, two-hitter against the Gauchos to record her career-high-tying eighth win of the season. Although Pitzenberger walked seven in the contest, she recorded four strikeouts and did not allow a run until the seventh inning.

CSUN jumped on the Gauchos in the second inning. Kristen Mihm started the frame with a double to right field and she scored on an RBI single by Krystal Raphael. Alexandria Alvarado would score the second run of the inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Karla Chaparro.

Northridge added another two runs in the fourth inning. Mihm reached on an error and then moved to second on a sac bunt by Alvarado. She then scored on a fielding error and the other Northridge run scored on a sac fly by Lauren Olivas.

Pitzenberger narrowly missed a shutout, walking in UCSB's only run in the seventh inning. MeLinda Matsumoto took the loss in game two for UCSB.

The Matadors and Gauchos will play one game Sunday to conclude the three-game series. First pitch from Matador Diamond is slated for noon.
