TUCSON, Ariz. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (12-16) lost 8-0 to No. 9 Arizona in five innings Friday night at Hillenbrand Stadium in the first game of a three-game series between the schools. Kenzie Fowler and Shelby Babcock combined to no-hit the Matadors.
Jaci Carlsen and Samantha Sloniker were the only Matadors to reach base safely Friday evening, drawing walks off Fowler. Babcock tossed the final inning, setting the side down quietly, to seal the no-hitter.
Stacie Chambers and Kristen Arriola homered for the ninth-ranked Wildcats. Arizona scored a pair of unearned runs off CSUN starter Hannah Fraijo in the first inning and added four more in the second to chase her from the circle.
Carly Wade threw the final two innings for CSUN, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks. Fraijo took the loss to fall to 8-5 on the season.
The Matadors and Wildcats will meet Saturday in the second game of the series. Originally scheduled for 7 p.m., the game was moved to 1 p.m. due to Arizona's men's basketball game in the NCAA Tournament. The teams will also play Sunday, Mar. 27 in a noon showdown.
