LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (1-7) lost 9-0 in a five-inning game to No. 4 UCLA Saturday night at Easton Stadium. The Bruins' Donna Kerr tossed a one-hitter in her five innings of work and CSUN ended the first day at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament with two hits in 12 innings of play.
The fourth-ranked Bruins jumped out out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning off Northridge starter Hannah Fraijo. After retiring the second in order, UCLA scored three runs in the third, including a home run, to chase Fraijo.
Freshman Mia Pagano then took over in the circle, but did not fare much better. UCLA touched her up for five runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Fraijo took the loss for CSUN, dropping to 0-3 on the season. Pagano tossed the final 2.1 innings of work for the Matadors.
Northridge returns to the diamond Saturday to face these same Bruins. The game, which is part of the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Classic, is slated for 6 p.m. at UCLA's Easton Stadium.
