San Jose Recap

The Cal State Northridge softball team defeated San Jose State, 7-4, in its third game of the UTEP Softball Invitational. Debbie Duran picked up her third win of the season while Christina Saenz and Jaci Carlsen each drove in two runs.

Both Alexandria Alvarado and Carlsen collected two hits for the Matadors against Spartan pitching. Alvarado smacked a pair of doubles to raise her season total to four. CSUN drew seven walks on the game and seven different Matadors scored in the game.

The Matadors got two runs in the bottom of the second. Christina Saenz and Micah Putnam walked to start the inning and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Debbie Duran. Saenz came around to score on a wild pitch and then Jaci Carlsen hit an RBI single.

San Jose State would take a 3-2 following a two-out rally in the top of the third. CSUN starter Debbie Duran gave up a two-out double and then walked a batter to set the stage for Brittany McConnell to hit a three-run home run.

The Spartans would get another run in the top of the fifth before Northridge would rally for five runs in the bottom of the frame. Jaclyn Rymer led off the frame with one of her three walks in the game and moved to second after Tracy Allen drew a walk. Alexandria Alvarado then doubled to left-center to bring Rymer home and Christina Saenz then singled to left to bring home both Allen and Alvarado.

Jennifer Mosier then pinch-ran for Saenz and moved to third on a fly-ball out by Putnam. Jaci Carlsen then singled to right field to bring Mosier home and make the score 6-4. A Spartan error allowed Krystal Raphael to reach base and Kristen Mihm then drew a walk to extend the inning. With the bases loaded, Rymer came back to the plate and drew an RBI walk to conclude the game's scoring.

Duran picked up the win for CSUN and tossed all seven innings, allowing four hits while walking four and striking out four.
