TEMPE, Ariz. - Oregon scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to slip past the Cal State Northridge softball team (1-5) at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. Jennifer Mosier connected on her second home run of the day in the game and Hannah Fraijo gave the Matadors a tough performance in the pitching circle.
Tied at 1-1 after seven innings, the Matadors and Ducks went to extra innings. In tournament rules, the teams start with a player on second base to begin the inning. Karla Chaparro scored a run for CSUN in the top of the eighth on a sac fly by Jaclyn Rymer. However, Oregon got a pair of base hits and scored the game-winning run on a fielder's choice.
Despite the loss, Fraijo gave Northridge a great outing in the circle. She went 7.1 innings, scattering seven hits and striking out a career-high seven batters. Fraijo is now 0-2 with a 2.44 ERA and a .244 batting-average-against.
Mosier again provided the offensive fireworks for the Matadors, drilling a solo home run in the top of the fourth on a 3-2 count. She is batting a team-high .556 with two home runs and four RBIs on the season.
Brittany Rumfelt pitched 2.0 innings of relief work for Oregon to pick up the victory.
Northridge returns to the diamond on Feb. 19 as part of the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament at UCLA. The Matadors will face Portland State at 11 a.m. and the host Bruins at 4 p.m.
