Matadors Drop 8-2 Decision to Texas A&M

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (1-4) lost 8-2 to Texas A&M Sunday morning at the Kajikawa Classic. Jennifer Mosier finished with two hits in the game, including a two-run home run.

The Aggies jumped out to an early lead, loading the bases on CSUN starter Amanda Pitzenberger with no outs in the bottom of the first. Following a two-run single, Pitzenberger settled down and struck out two batters and got a fly-out to temper the Aggies' rally.

Texas A&M nearly added to its lead in the bottom of the second, but Lauren Olivas made an outstanding grab on a deep flyball in left field that nearly cleared the fence.

The Aggies added to their lead in the bottom of the third, loading the bases oPitzenberger before chasing her out of the game. A&M then connected for a two-run double off Debbie Duran before Christina Saenz nailed a would-be Aggie run at the plate. Duran then ended the frame with a strikeout.

Texas A&M added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

CSUN fought back in the top of the fifth. Tracy Allen led off the inning with a single and then stole second base. Jennifer Mosier then took an 0-1 pitch and deposited into the left field stands for a two-run home run.

Northridge nearly added some runs in the sixth. Karla Chaparro and Kristen Mihm each reached base safely on singles and with two outs, Tracy Allen was hit by pitch. However, Texas A&M was able escape the jam with a ground ball.

Pitzenberger tossed 2.1 innings, allowing four hits and four earned runs with two strikeouts. Duran went 1.0 innings, scattering four hits with two runs and a strikeout. Finally, Hannah Fraijo tossed the last 2.2 innings of the game for CSUN, giving up just one hit and striking out four.

Rhi Kliesing tossed a complete game for Texas A&M, striking out 11 and scattering six hits to earn the victory.

Northridge returns to action Sunday with a game against Oregon. First is slated for approximately 1:30 p.m. MT.
