CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (1-2) lost 8-0 to No. 22 Georgia Saturday afternoon at the Cathedral City Kickoff. The Matadors second game, a meeting with Wisconsin, was cancelled due to weather.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after Alisa Goler hit a three-run home run off Matador starter Claire Rietmann-Grout. Still, the graduate student persevered in the inning, forcing the Bulldogs to strand runners at second and third in the frame.

Georgia got another run across in the third and scored three more in the fourth on another home run by Goler. The Bulldogs closed out the game with a run in the top of the sixth to conclude the scoring at 8-0.

In the circle, Georgia's Christie Hamilton tossed six innings of no-hit softball, striking out nine and walking only one. Juniors Amanda Pitzenberger and Christina Saenz were the only Matadors to reach base safely in the game.

Rietmann-Grout took the loss, her first of the season, going three innings while allowing five run and seven hits with one strikeout. Junior DEBORAH DURAN pitched the final three innings for CSUN, surrendering three runs and three hits with one strikeout.

The contest against Georgia went through a 90-minute rain delay and the inclement weather forced the cancellation of Northridge's game against Wisconsin. The Badgers and Matadors will still face-off two more times this season at the Long Beach State Mayfair Tournament. Sophomore Krystal Raphael's sister, Valyncia, is a member of the Wisconsin team.

The Matadors have two games Sunday to close out the Cathedral City Kickoff. Northridge opens the day with a 9 a.m. contest against Southern Illinois and concludes tournament play with a meeting against No. 14 Fresno State at 11 a.m.
